Day 3: "forgive us our debts (sins)"

The Lord’s Prayer

“‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be holy, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Prompt

We all fall short…we lose our temper, we judge, we hurt others…as Robert Robinson sings, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love.” Whether it’s willingly or not, we all fall short of loving our neighbor like Jesus loves us. Yet Jesus draws close to us, no matter where we’re at. He is like the prodigal father, lavishly giving us grace, waiting for our return—with open arms.

Prayer

God, I do the things I don’t want to do, and the things I want to do, I don’t do. I fall short daily, and it’s by your grace and love I am being made whole and holy. Your forgiveness is once and for all! When my eyes open, may you be my focus; let your path be where my feet travel. Reveal to me where sin continues to grip, influence, or hinder me. Holy Spirit, help me to feel and walk in the realization that I am forgiven and free. You have clothed me with righteousness, you call me your child, you have given me every blessing in the heavenly realms. When I fall short, when I mess up, when I cause hurt, turn my heart towards you and remind me of your forgiveness.

Reflect

Consider the ways being forgiven challenges you to live sacrificially. What are you trying to hold on to, or control, that you need to trust God with? What does walking in forgiveness look like for you?
